Your First Retreat: Preparation Is Part of the Process
If you have decided to attend your first transformation retreat, congratulations. The decision itself is already a step toward change. But how you prepare can significantly influence the depth of your experience.
This guide shares what we have learned from facilitating over 100 retreats with 1,000+ participants at FloreSiendo.
The 3 Phases of a Transformation Retreat
Phase 1 — Preparation (1-2 weeks before): Set the foundation. Your nervous system needs to arrive in a state of relative calm.
Phase 2 — Immersion (the retreat): 3-4 days of deep work including ceremonies, breathwork, meditation, and integration circles.
Phase 3 — Integration (weeks after): Perhaps the most important phase. Where insights become lasting changes.
5 Key Steps the Week Before
1. Set a Clear Intention
Research in neuroplasticity shows that participants with a clearly defined intention are 60% more likely to report lasting changes. Write it down. Keep it honest and specific.
2. Clean Up Your Diet
Reduce alcohol, caffeine, processed foods, and heavy meals starting 5 days before.
3. Reduce Screen Time
Begin disconnecting from social media and news. Your nervous system will thank you.
4. Sleep Well
Prioritize 7-8 hours of sleep. Arrive rested, not depleted.
5. Inform Your Inner Circle
Let trusted people know where you will be. This creates a safety net and reduces anxiety.
